World Record Riverdance
On Sunday 9th May 2010 the RNLI broke a world record for the longest Riverdance line. The event raised £10,000 the Royal National Lifeboat Institution to train volunteer lifeboat crews in Ireland. The record stood at 312 but yesterday a total of 392 people lined the banks of the River Foyle to dance together for five minutes and smash the world record. The RNLI are now sending evidence of the record to the Guinness World Records and hope to have it officially confirmed in a few weeks.
Dancers travelled to the event from Donegal, Belfast, Down, Cavan, Mayo and Dublin. They represented over twenty Irish dancing schools and a local contingent of 45 dancers took part from the Maiden City.
City
of Song Festival
City of Song is a festival that celebrates Derry's
reputation as just that, a city of song. Home to the Undertones,
Joseph Locke, Nadine Coyle....the City of Derry is Northern
Ireland's cultural capital and a city full of music. Join
us for a festival that features BBC Radio 3 broadcasts,
The Tennent's Trail, Street Theatre and a weekend of choral
