City Rangers

CCTV
The CCTV scheme is designed to create a safe and secure environment for all those who visit, live and work in City.

Trading Hours and Public Holidays
City Centre trading hours and days of business.

In April 2000 City Centre Initiative initiated the City Centre Rangers Service with the appointment of two staff. The Rangers welcome visitors; offering information and advice to city centre users; provide a link between local businesses and public agencies with responsibilities for city centre management. They are the “eyes on the street” on the look-out for hazards and problems. The Rangers will provide a visible representation of the management of the city walls and assist with their operational running.

They are responsible for ensuring overall co-ordination and maximum ease of public access to the walls and play a positive role in identifying and diffusing problems from the congregation of groups of youths and street drinkers on the city walls. This task will be carried out in close liaison with the PSNI. They will patrol sites and buildings and enforce by laws where appropriate and encourage responsible behaviour by the public. Other duties will include:

• Escorting and supervising groups participating in the organisation and running of events on the walls and giving talks using an information package in conjunction with local management.
• Helping the public by answering questions and generally making them feel welcome.
• Photographing and reporting instances of vandalism and deterioration on the city walls.
• Cleaning the interpretive signs on the walls on a daily basis.
• Monitoring litter and dog fouling in liaison with Derry City Council.
