City Centre Initiative’s Derry Pub and Club Association has been working for a number of years to help bring about a change in attitude and use of the city centre in the evenings. The group comprises most of the main pubs and clubs in the city centre who meet regularly, spending considerable time engaging with PSNI inspectors and licensing officers as well as actively working with Derry City Council’s Inspectors and Licensing officials to create a positive change. The group aims to:

  • Reduce risk of damage to property and assaults on staff
  • Achieve a safe and secure drinking environment in all licensed premises in the city
  • Establish trader benefits if customers feel confident that they can relax in a safe and secure environment
  • Increase the use of city-centre premises throughout the week and throughout the year – thereby increasing turnover.

Membership of the group is open to all bar and nightclub licensees within Derry~Londonderry city centre.

Many representatives from the city centre pubs and clubs attend the group meetings held by City Centre Initiative and have agreed to participate in the range of schemes and initiatives organised by CCI such as:

  • Radio Link Scheme
  • Cutting prices of non-alcoholic drinks
  • Agreed IDs, similar to those required to vote
