CITY CENTRE INITIATIVE APPOINTS NEW CHAIRMAN
Posted 6th May 2010City Centre Initiative has elected Hugh Hegarty as its new Chair and Mayor Paul Fleming Vice Chair at its first meeting after its AGM. Hugh replaces outgoing Chair Brendan Duddy who served as Chair of the Company for the past eleven years. Mr Hegarty said:
“I have been very proud to work with Brendan Duddy for the last eleven years and in that time, under his stewardship; we have seen many great changes within the city centre. Brendan has worked tirelessly on behalf of all the stakeholders in the city centre to improve and enhance the opportunities and experiences for all city centre users. Through Brendan’s hard work and energy much good was done to help ease tensions during the marching seasons and he has played a leading role as a mediator bringing together different sides of our community during his term of office. It has been a pleasure to work with Brendan over these many years and our board wish to express their gratitude for everything he has done for the company and we wish him well for the future.
We are currently working very closely with Derry City Council and ILEX in helping to formulate, with others, the Derry~Londonderry Regeneration Plan and of course the city’s bid for UK City of Culture. As these are very difficult economic times we will ensure that all efforts, practically possible, will be made to serve all the stakeholders within the city centre.
